"I've had a passion for small businesses and solopreneurs, from a very young age."

When I was seven my father had a very small convenience store in a very small community and due to actions of a big company, circumstances completely outside my father's control, he lost his business and went bankrupt. I'm from Norway, and back in 1973, you actually had to stay in bankruptcy for 10 years, unless you earned enough money to get out of it. But there was a problem… you couldn't actually start another business to get out of it. So, we had to survive on the small amount of money he was earning and that was very, very challenging for both him and our family.

I, therefore, grew up during those formative years of my life, from 7 to 17, feeling like the big guy could easily crush the little guy and my passion developed for championing smaller businesses.

In fact, I did a two year MBA at university in the UK, because I was so determined I wasn’t going to fail in business; I wanted to learn everything I could and be successful from day one.

The CORPORATE

I did work in the corporate world for a couple of years before I started my own business which I ran for two years. It was fairly successful; I had 3000 customers and a staff of seven. It was however really, really hard work and after I had paid all the staff and all the overheads there was very little income left for me and my family, so reluctantly I sold it.

The thing is, by selling the business I had the opportunity to go out and earn four times as much money as a consultant and the amount of money I got from selling my business was only around five figures. Much later I discovered other people were able to sell their businesses for 10x and even 100x more than what I got for mine. I always call that my failure to succeed. The business didn't fail; in fact, the business is still going today, after all these years. It was me who failed to succeed.

So in 2000, I started a journey of discovery to find out...

  • What was effective marketing?
  • What are the triggers that make people buy?
  • How can you sell authentically and how can you sell to people who not only want to buy willingly but are happy with their purchase as well?

The Journey

I studied a lot of topics; hypnosis, Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) and the psychology of influence. I also studied sales techniques, objection handling, copywriting, and a lot more.

Throughout my working life I’ve been able to use so many of these skills, both as an employee and business owner. It’s also enabled me to write hundreds of ads for clients that have been very effective and successful for them.

My father never owned a business again and just before Christmas in 2019 he tragically passed away. Reflecting on both his and my own life I came to the decision that I needed to leave my corporate life and go back to being my own boss once and for all.

At that same time, I was meeting a lot of people who were struggling with both technology and their marketing. They were struggling to get clients and figure out how to get people interested in the services they were providing. I knew I could help them. I had found my true purpose.

Steve Eriksen | The Midlife Solopreneur

My passion is to help those who are struggling with their existing business or even trying to get a business off the ground. Even if they are already earning five figures or even more, they may not have a solid reliable stream of prospects and clients. My mission is to help them create a thriving business through the use of effective marketing, persuasion, psychology, and through having the right technology in place to handle automation, and systematization of that technology and marketing.

So that's a snapshot of me, Steve Eriksen, The Midlife Solopreneur. I’m on a mission to help small businesses, coaches, consultants and authors create thriving, stable and successful businesses they love.
